Sheltered bays and expansive open waters provide favorable breeding and living conditions for many fish species. True to its name, Haukivesi is renowned as a reliable pike fishing destination. Additionally, the area boasts abundant bream, perch, and zander. Salmonids are occasionally caught, and the population of vendace varies significantly across different parts of the area.
Haukivesi Lake: The Haukivesi fishing area is located at a junction of the headwaters of the Vuoksi river basin, covering the water area between Varkaus and Savonlinna. The area spans approximately 51,500 hectares and is characterized by numerous rugged islands and peninsulas that break up the landscape.. Haukivesi represents Finnish lake scenery at its finest. A distinctive feature of the area is the Linnansaari National Park, located in its central region. At Haukivesi, visitors can experience the proximity of pristine, untouched nature and observe daily activities of wildlife such as ospreys and Saimaa ringed seals. While the protection of the seals imposes some fishing restrictions, the area is equally welcoming to both anglers and the seals themselves! Joutenvesi Lake: The Nature Reserve Lake Joutenvesi is a backwoods-like water excursion destination located between two of Finland's national parks. Together with Kolovesi and Linnansaari National Parks this region is a magnificent whole landscape as well as conservation wise. The Heinävesi Water Route runs through the area. It is known to be one of Finland's most beautiful boating routes. Today the area's islands are for the most part uninhabited. Together with the more eastern Lake Pyyvesi, Joutenvesi is part of the Joutenvesi - Pyyvesi Natura 2000 site. Lake Pyyvesi offers a connecting route to Lake Paasivesi. Lake Joutenvesi was named after the swans that visit it (joutsen is Finnish for swan). Lake Joutenvesi is characterised by sounds with swift currents and its labyrinth of islands. There is an abundance of islands in the lake. They are varying in size from small reefs to land masses with an area of 2 hectares. Therefore there are long stretches of shoreline in the area and open cliffs are also typical of the area. The rugged lake is a mix of crystal clear water flowing from the north and the murkier waters coming from Lake Pielinen
