Closed Seasons:
- In rivers and streams, a closed season for salmon applies from September 1 to November 30.
Catch Limits:
- Recreational anglers may catch up to two salmon per day.
Specific Regulations for Salmon Fishing in the Gulf of Bothnia (ICES Divisions 29, 30, and 31)
Catch Limit:
- One marked salmon (adipose fin clipped) per angler per day is allowed.
- After catching this one salmon, fishing must stop for the rest of the day.
Landing Rules:
- All fish must be landed whole and unprocessed directly from the fishing vessel.
This means gutting, filleting, or processing onboard is not allowed. This rule ensures better monitoring and traceability.
Special Rule for Northern Areas:
- From May 1 to August 31, in areas north of 59°30' N latitude (see map), within four nautical miles from the baseline:
- Both marked and unmarked salmon may be caught.

1. Required Fishing Permits: All anglers between 18 and 64 years must pay the national fisheries management fee (Kalastonhoitomaksu):
- €6 per day
- €16 per week
- €45 per year

- Fishing season runs from June 8 (12:00 noon) to August 25.
- Closed every Sunday 7:00 PM to Monday 7:00 PM.
