Fishing and Kayaking on the Ruunaa Rapids

Fully-Guided Fishing activity with guide and accommodation

Duration: 4 days 12 Slots ✓ Transport included ✓ Accommodation included 🐟Salmon, Pike, Trout & 3 more Joensuu, North Karelia

The Ruunaa fishing and kayak fishing package is sold to groups of 5-12 people. The trip is available from August 14 to October 11, 2026. Ask about available dates!

Ruunaa has been popular with fishermen for as long as anyone can remember. The Lieksanjoki River, where the Ruunaa rapids are located, is an old lake salmon spawning river. Nowadays, salmon migration is prevented by the construction of lower rapids, so fishing focuses on other species. In the free-flowing rapids and their pools, you can catch rainbow trout, pike, whitefish, perch, grayling. Trout are also stocked in the rapids. Catching salmon is not impossible, but lake salmon are completely protected, meaning they must always be released.

On this trip, we will travel on the waterways by kayak. Kayak fishing trips will be planned more carefully for each group, and routes can be planned to avoid strong rapids. There will be two kayaking sections.

Kayak fishing trips can include, for example, canoeing from Lake Ruunaanjärvi to near Haapavitja and from Neitikoski to Lake Murroojärvi. If groups likes kayaking without fishing, then kayaking routes are longer. There will also be time for independent fishing from the shore, or you can purchase additional activities for your own time.
