Fishing and paddling on Wilderness River

Mäntyjoki is a small wilderness river that originates from Musta Mäntyjärvi. The canoeing route stretches from Mäntyjärvi to Suomujärvi, covering approximately 16 km. Along the way, you will encounter small lakes, ponds, and rapids, which can either be paddled through or bypassed by carrying the kayak.

This route is physically demanding, as obstacles such as fallen trees or beaver dams may be present. At times, equipment may need to be carried through the forest. The excursion is only available in early summer when the water level is high enough. We reserve the right to adjust the route based on current conditions.

Both the calm sections of the river and the lakes are great for fishing, with perch and pike being the main species. A national fishery management fee is sufficient for fishing on the river, except in currents and rapids, where an additional permit from the water area owner is required. The Metsähallitus angling permit for Southern Finland is sufficient for this. Each participant is responsible for obtaining their own fishing permits.

Tour Overview:
Accommodation for both nights is at Musta Mäntyjärvi, either in tents or, for small groups, in a hut.

Itinerary:
📍 Day 1: Departure from Joensuu with a stop at a grocery store. Upon arrival, camp setup followed by guided or independent paddling on Musta Mäntyjärvi. Fishing opportunities available. Enjoy a campfire with self-prepared snacks.

📍 Day 2: After breakfast, start of the paddling trip towards Lake Suomujärvi. In the evening, return to camp with the option of a tent sauna.
