LappeanLohi belongs to Kylmämaan Ohjelmat Oy, a family-run company founded in 1988 in Ylläsjärvi with two generations of experience organising wilderness experiences in Lapland. Founder Mauri Kylmämaa was named Kolari's Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008, and the company holds the Q1000 quality certificate for tourism businesses. Alongside its Ylläsjärvi base, the family operates LappeanLohi year-round in the Tornionjoki River Valley.
The resort sits in the village of Lappea in the Municipality of Kolari, directly on the bank of the Tornionjoki – Europe's largest free-flowing salmon river – close to the confluence of two river branches. It's about 30 kilometres from Kolari, the nearest railway station, and around 45 kilometres from Pello. The Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park and the Ylläs fell area are easily reached from here.

Your fishing adventure
The river section at Lappea is part of the Tornionjoki, one of Europe’s most renowned salmon rivers. The fishing area stretches for approximately four kilometers and includes three main zones ("pools") with varying current conditions – from calm waters to strong rapids. This diversity makes the area especially attractive for both boat and shore anglers. In addition to the main river flow, nearby bays and inlets provide excellent opportunities for catching different species like salmon, grayling, and pike.
Lappea is best known for salmon trolling – each summer, large schools of wild Baltic salmon migrate up the river, attracting passionate anglers from near and far. The season lasts throughout the summer: early in the season, large salmon weighing between 4 and 20 kilograms are commonly caught, while later in the summer, smaller but aggressive males around 1.5 to 2.5 kilograms become more prevalent. In addition to trolling, the quiet stretches of the river offer great shore fishing spots. The faster-flowing sections are ideal for targeting grayling and pike. Trolling maps are available at the starting point and from LappeanLohi, and it is recommended to review them before heading out. Since water levels can affect fishing conditions, it’s a good idea to ask for up-to-date tips before you go.

Arrival & orientation
LappeanLohi is located in the village of Lappea in the Municipality of Kolari, in the Tornionjoki river valley in Finnish Lapland. By car, access is via the Väylänvarrentie road; it's around 30 km from Kolari and about 45 km from Pello. The nearest railway station is in Kolari, and the nearest airports are Kittilä and Rovaniemi. From Kittilä Airport the drive takes just over an hour and 15 minutes, and from Rovaniemi around one and a half hours. Public transport only reaches Kolari or Pello – from there, the resort can arrange pickup for a separate fee
- Rental boats must always be operated sober, life jackets are mandatory, and the outboard motor's emergency stop must always be attached - Boats carry a maximum of three passengers and must be returned clean after use (a 30 € fee applies otherwise); the Lappeankoski and Jaapakoski rapids are off-limits to rental boats - Rowing on the Tornionjoki follows fixed departure rules at three marked starting points (queue order and spacing must be respected)
